This distinction matters because an enzyme can be abundantly present yet catalytically silent — inhibited, mutated, or held in an inactive conformation/zymogen state — and abundance-only methods cannot detect that difference, while an ABP specifically fails to label an inactive enzyme copy even if it is present in equal or greater amount.
